Environmental Threats

Overexploitation, loss of species diversity, non-native species, habitat loss, pollution (including plastics), climate change, and ocean acidification are all critical issues. The Salish Sea is under a lot of pressure.

Cultural Issues

Tribal treaty rights frequently run up against current practices in a time of diminishing resources, leading to misunderstandings and conflict.

Stewardship

We need to better understand how the system functions and the impact of our individual behaviors. Positive messaging, better education, and achievable goals to reduce our impact are critical to improving the situation.
